6) Butchart Gardens.
In British Columbia, the creators of the Butchart Gardens did something a little different to inspire local plant-lovers. Today, this site is a gorgeous spectacle of lush green life and flowers. But, in 1909, the site was an abandoned quarry.
It took 12 years to create this impressive garden and it continues to bring joy 100 years later. Modern touches like light shows and other nighttime events draw crowds, while the garden also remains a refuge for wildlife.
